Optimisation of ideal absorption cycles with external irreversibilities.

Author(s) : TOZER R., AGNEW B.

Summary

The paper considers the minimization of irreversibilities of a single-effect absorption refrigeration cycle, which is only subject to thermal resistance losses of heat exchanges with the external heat sources and sinks. Besides the heat exchangers, the cycle is reversible, which is also referred to as an endo-reversible cycle. The ideal cycle is based on the fundamental thermodynamics of absorption cycles and is constituted by equivalent driving and cooling reversible Carnot cycles. The properties of the heat exchangers for the driving and cooling cycles are analyzed theoretically and by computer simulation, and the conditions for which minimum irreversibility losses are obtained are established.
