Optimization of precooling stage performance for MR JT cryocooler.

Number: 0563

Author(s) : ROGALA Z.

Summary

Application of precooling was reported as efficient way to improve the performance and capacity of Mixed-Refrigerant Joule-Thomson (MR JT) cryocoolers. Latest studies shown that precooling stage substantially contributes to overall power consumption of the system and therefore its optimization is of a great importance. Precooling of mixed-refrigerant from the ambient temperature is not similar to typical refrigeration and therefore it cannot be effectively carried out by simple vapour-compression stage. The study has been carried out aiming to characterize the process of mixed-refrigerant precooling, review and evaluate existing methods suitable for precooling.
