Summary

THE OXYGEN TRANSMISSION RATES OF PACKAGING FILM HAVE BEEN MEASURED BY PLACING THE FILM EITHER SIDE OF A PHOTOSENSITIVE DETECTOR FILM. ATMOSPHERIC OXYGEN DIFFUSES THROUGH THE TEST FILMS AND REACTS WITH THE CONSTITUENTS OF THE DETEC THE RATE OF DIFFUSION IS MEASURED BY THE ABSORBANCE LOSS IN THE DETECTOR FILM FOLLOWING ILLUMINATION. SOME DISCREPANCIES WERE NOTED WITH VARIATION IN RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF THE AIR, AND MODIFICATIONS SUCH AS THE CONCENTRATION OF DIMETHYLANTHRACENE IN THE DETECTOR FILM ARE RECOMMENDED. G.R.S.
