Summary

In order to develop a new refrigerant candidate to replace R410A or R32 used in domestic room air-conditioners, it is necessary to find novel substances with negligibly low GWP and low boiling-point temperatures. HFO-1123 (trifluoroethene) is one of the promising candidates because of its negligible GWP ( <  1) and slightly lower boiling-point temperature than R410A and R32. Although HFO-1123 has some disadvantages such as disproportionation reaction and weak flammability, it is expected to be a component of low-GWP refrigerant mixtures. In the present study, a set of vapor pressures and pρT properties of HFO-1123 was experimentally obtained. A single-sinker magnetic levitation densimeter (MLD) was used to obtain 57 gas-phase pρT properties at temperatures ranging from 260 K to 400 K. In the liquid-phase, 33 density data were obtained at temperatures from 260 K to 340 K and pressures up to 7 MPa. Based on the measurment results, a set of equations of state for single phase was developed.
