Summary

SPIN WAVES ARE EXCITED PARAMETRICALLY BY PARALLEL PUMPING IN THE FERROMAGNETS CDCR2SE4 AND CDCR2S4. A STUDY OF SPIN WAVE DAMPING IN THE CRYSTALS SHOWS THAT CHROMIUM IONS WITH VALENCIES OF TWO OR FOUR PLAY A SIGNIFICANT ROLE. THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE INTRINSIC SPIN WAVE RELAXATION PROCESSES IS SO SIGNIFICANT THAT IT CAN EASILY BE MEASURED EVEN AT LIQUID HELIUM TEMPERATURES.
