Summary

The system performance of a room air conditioner (RAC) with low GWP refrigerants was evaluated. The test units are drop-in unit and modified unit with a rotary compressor and alkyl benzene oil. As test results, the rated cooling capacity (4.0 kW) can not be obtained and APF ratio of HFO-1234yf is 80% to R410A in drop-in test. In modified unit test, the rated cooling capacity can be obtained and APF ratio of HFO-1234yf is 91% to R410A. In the test using the modified compressor, APF ratio of HFO-1234yf is 95% to R410A. From these results, it is predicted that the size of indoor unit is 12% and the size of outdoor unit is 54% larger than R410A unit to obtain the same performance as R410A. Also, the system performance of R32/HFO-1234yf mixtures was evaluated. In R32/HFO-1234yf mixtures APF tends to increase in the range of more than 30wt% of R32 and APF ratio to R410A becomes 93% on condition that R32 concentration is 60wt%. Furthermore, stability and sliding characteristics were evaluated and compared with R410A results. HFO-1234yf is less stable than R410A. Especially, the air accelerates its deterioration severely. On the other hand, HFO-1234yf has better sliding property than R410A.
