PERFORMANCE COMPARISON TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON R134A, WHICH IS BEING CONSIDERED AS A SUBSTITUTE REFRIGERANT TO REPLACE THE 2 REFRIGERANTS WERE TESTED IN A SMALL PROTOTYPE EXHAUST AIR HEAT PUMP DESIGNED FOR R12. FOR THE R134A TESTS, A SPECIAL COMPRESSOR LUBRICATING OIL WAS USED. IN THE PAPER, COMPARISONS ARE PRESENTED OF REFRIGERANT EVAPORATING/CONDENSING TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES, HEATING CAPACITIES, COMPRESSOR POWER REQUIREMENTS, COPS, ETC. THERMOSTATIC EXPANSION VALVE BEHAVIOUR IS ALSO DESCRIBED.
