Summary

Three methods for calculating the performance of air-conditioning systems from the measured or estimated refrigerant flow were evaluated and compared with measurements by the air enthalpy method. There are some operating conditions that cannot be measured by using an ultrasonic flowmeter. Correction by removing outliers was found to be a practical and simple approach. The Coriolis flowmeters are expensive, but can evaluate the performance accurately for various operating conditions. The compressor curve method that estimates the performance of air-conditioning systems from the compressor performance curve with few measuring instruments has potential. The method can be used to predict the performance of a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system with errors of less than 10%, which is far better than other methods.
