Summary
VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) air conditioners closely apply to the cases of variable load for their high part-load efficiency; hence their usage is growing rapidly, because most air conditioners operate at part-load for much of their life. A well-designed VRV air conditioner will match the refrigeration capacity to the load continuously and therefore the dynamic characteristics of their different components in the conditioner, especially the evaporators, must be well understood. Research work on multi-evaporator VRV air conditioners is mostly based on experiments. However, there is currently a lack of simulation research on this because the complexity caused by the interaction between the parameters of the evaporators. In the paper, a dynamic model for a triple-evaporator VRV air conditioner was developed. Using this model, a simulation study was performed and the results were analysed. According to the analysis, the necessity and benefits of the suction pressure control were presented. The simulation results in the paper should help to design control strategies for multi-evaporator VRV air conditioners.
