Performance of a reciprocating hermetic refrigerant compressor using propane as working fluid.

Summary

Compared to R22 performances with the same test rig, R290 leads to lower the capacity but increases the COP. On a first run the machine, a standard 6 kW R22 unit, was evaluated in normal working conditions. Then it was retrofitted with pure propane and again tested. For the experimental study a specially designed, ISO 917 compliant, characterization test rig was used to provide a complete picture on modifications in volumetric efficiency, isentropic efficiency, thermal transfer characteristics and others.
