Performance of a water-air residential heat pump system in a 4600 degree-day environment.

Summary

The performance of a well-insulated airtight residence was monitored for a year. Its energy needs for heating are 40% of those for conventional homes but its overall energy consumption is almost equal to that of an average household due to the presence of a small heated indoor swimming pool. Solar collectors and a heat pump operating between the indoor air and the swimming pool were added and their contributions are being monitored. Measured and simulation results indicate that appreciable energy saving and improved indoor conditions can be achieved with an appropriate opeation strategy of this system.
