Performance of hydrocarbon based mixed refrigerant cascade refrigeration system for very low temperature applications.
Author(s) : VENKATARATHNAM G., PASAD G. V., MURTHY S. S.
Summary
Because of environmental issues CFC-13 and R503 need to be replaced. One possibility is the mixed refrigerant cascade system, which operates with a single stage compressor. With an appropriate mixture, it is possible to reach temperatures lower than -80 deg C with pressure ratios of the order of 5 or 6. The performance of the mixed refrigerant cycle operating with two different hydrocarbon based mixtures is presented in the paper.
