Performance of propane, ammonia and carbon dioxide in long tube evaporators and plate heat exchangers.

Author(s) : BROWN J., PEARSON S. F.

Summary

The object of this work is to produce programs to predict pressure drops and heat transfer coefficients in refrigerant evaporators. The work described is based on the equations of Schlunder which have been adapted to long tube evaporators and to plate heat exchangers with varying chevron angles. The validity of the programs has been checked by field measurements. Results are presented for the three refrigerants specified. Use of carbon dioxide as a refrigerant will increase. There is significant lack of design information about this refrigerant which will be even more effective than ammonia in long tube evaporators.
