Summary

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the new method of cryopreservation by immersion in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with possible repeated freezing. More than 60 cadaveric femoral arteries (4 cm long) and 7 aortic valves (5 cm long) with preliminary mathematical modeling were cryopreserved (up to three times) in PDMS on sterile hollow plastic tubes with stirring for 2 minutes, storing at minus 80 °C and thawing in the same PDMS. The quality of cryopreservation was assessed by histological and immunohistochemical methods, scanning electron microscopy and biomechanical tests. According to morphology examinations, there ware no significant and critical differences between the segments of experimental and control groups. Using of polydimethylsiloxane is feasible for an instant, cost-effective and one-stage cryopreservation of blood vessels for their biobanking.
