Summary
The boiling experiments described in this article were part of a collaborative research programme with the overall goal to address the potential hazards induced by rapid phase transitions in the case of accidental spills of liquid natural gas into the sea. The results presented in this study show that there are great differences in the boiling characteristics depending upon the cryogenic liquid composition, and that the heat transfer mechanism between water and liquid natural gas should be taken into account when developing the rapid phase transition models further.
