Summary

The potential use of vacuum tube solar collector in cooling and refrigeration applications is investigated. Comparison of the performance of two similar collectors was carried out experimentally, one being evacuated and the other non-evacuated, both with concentric reflector. The inlet-to-outlet temperature difference was measured for different flow rates and tilt angles and the efficiency of the collector was then calculated. The results show as high as 40% improvement in the efficiency of evacuated tube compared with that of the non-evacuated one.
