Summary

THE AUTHOR PRESENTS A PHYSICAL MODEL DESCRIBING PRECIPITATION AND PARTICULATE FOULING BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION OF A DEPOSITION AND A REMOVAL PROCESS. EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH AQUEOUS CALCIUM SULPHATE SOLUTIONS. DIATOMEOUS EARTH DISPERSED IN WATER WAS USED TO STUDY PARTICULATE FOULING. EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH SHOULD MAINLY CLARIFY THE INFLUENCE OF FLOW VELOCITY, CONCENTRATION AND TEMPERATURE ON THE FOULING BEHAVIOUR. NUMERICAL VALUES OF THE FOULING FACTOR WERE DEDUCED FROM TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT TRANSFER SURFACE AND BULK FLOW CONDITIONS. THE FOULING FACTOR REACHING TO AN ASYMPTOTIC VALUE ESSENTIALLY DEPENDS ON FLOW VELOCITY.
