Summary

The purpose of this study is verifying our prediction method of thermal sensation for elderly by cheek skin temperature. 312 of the elderly who are physically and psychologically healthy participated in the experiment. ASHRAE 7-point thermal sensation scale and 4-point thermal comfort scale were used to measure subjects’ actual thermal sensation. The experiment was done at several welfare centers and senior citizens’ centers which are able to let the elderly come and go freely. It showed a low relation on the PMV(Predicted Mean Vote) and the actual mean vote from elderly in the field. Thermal sensation using cheek skin temperature had a general association with actual mean vote. A prediction model measuring cheek-skin temperature in order to predict thermal sensations of the elderly was useful in the field and not only in the test chamber.
