Relationship between skin temperature and thermal comfort under air-conditioning environments.
Author(s) : YAO Y., LIAN Z. W., LIU W. W., et al.
Summary
Skin is often known as "the largest organ in the human body" and contributes to maintain a constant body temperature through dilating or constricting the vessels in response to ambient temperature. Skin temperature, which usually appears in many thermal comfort models, is one of the most important factors that produce considerable influence on the thermal comfort sensation. Although some studies have reported the relationship between the mean body skin temperature and the thermal comfort under different indoor air conditions, they didn't clarify how the mean body skin temperature is obtained. Moreover, they haven't expounded the relationship between the partial body skin temperature and the thermal comfort of entire body. In this study, the measurement technologies of the mean body skin temperature are evaluated by the PMV equations that are usually used in the thermal comfort study. Experimental results show that the Burton (3 points) method of mean body skin temperature measurement is favourable for the PMV calculation. Meanwhile, the influence of thermal environment on the partial body skin temperatures is studied, and the partial thermal sensations under different air-conditioned environments are investigated through experiments.
