Prediction of pool boiling heat transfer with hydrocarbons.

Summary

Measurements of pool boiling heat transfer were done with the 2 hydrocarbons propane and n-hexane in a large range of saturating pressures in a steel tube that had been subjected to 2 different surface treatments. Arithmetic mean roughness height varied between 0.2 and 11.3 microns. Heat flux ranged from natural convection to very intense boiling with no bubble formation. The results show that roughness is much more able to increase heat transfer with a low heat flux than with a high one. Heat transfer was little affected by the changes in saturating pressure.
