Prediction of volumetric and thermodynamic properties of refrigerants: a simplified procedure.

Author(s) : DEVOTTA S., PENDYALA V. R.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

Prediction of volumetric and thermodynamic data for some refrigerants using their boiling points, and possibly also their critical properties as the basic input data, has been attempted using corresponding states and some established equations for various properties for a variety of fluids. The properties predicted include vapour pressure, vapour and liquid specific volumes, liquid and vapour heat capacities and latent heat of vaporization. The usefulness of this method has been exemplified with an analysis of an ideal Rankine refrigeration cycle. The derived cycle data for this comparative analysis were calculated both from predicted thermodynamic data following the procedure evolved in this analysis and from published data. The agreement between the two methods is within 5% for R134a and R12.
