Summary

A mixed-refrigerant cycle (MRC) has been widely used in LNG plants. In this paper, a new-type MRC system with a commercial refrigerator as precooling stage is proposed as nitrogen liquefier. The major refrigeration cycle is driven by a commercial screw compressor and the nitrogen is pressurized and purified by an air-separation system. A thermodynamic analysis for the cryogenic system is carried out with a process simulation software and preliminary comparisons indicated that the new liquid nitrogen plane has a better thermal performance than other commercial nitrogen liquefiers.
