THIS REPORT FROM A MAJOR HERMETIC COMPRESSOR MANUFACTURER HIGHLIGHTS THE PRESENT DOUBTS OF R12 ALTERNATIVES. BECAUSE OF THE GROWING GLOBAL WARMING GREENHOUSE PROBLEM, R134A, WITH ITS EXPECTED INCREASE IN ENERGY REQUIREMENTS, MAY NOT BE A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, NEW CALORIMETER TESTS ON ACTUAL COMPRESSORS INDICATE LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN ENERGY EFFICIENY TESTS CONTINUE ALSO ON R134A AND SUITABLE OILS. AS AN IMMEDIATE ALTERNATIVE HOWEVER, THE FIRM HAS LAUNCHED A NEW LINE OF R22 COMPRESSORS, ALTHOUGH R22 MAY HAVE A WORSE OZONE DEPLETION VALUE THAN ORIGNINALLY THOUGHT. D.W.H.
