Summary

The authors studied 51 cases of severely burned patients who received frozen allografts for surgery. The mean burn surface area of the patients was 52.3%. Frozen allografts have made aggressive eschartomy possible during surgery. Wound healing times and hospitalization periods were also shortened. They also considered functional aspects of the burn wounds. Although frozen allografts are useful for treating extensively burned patients, the shortage of skin donors and establishment of skin bank systems are the unsolved present problems.
