RESEARCH FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRYOPRESERVATION PROCESS FOR OIL PALM SOMATIC EMBRYOS STARTED IN FRANCE IN 1984. FREEZING CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY DIRECT IMMERSION OF THE EMBRYOS IN LIQUID NITROGEN. IN A FIRST STAGE, THE PROCESS WASLABORATORY-TESTED WITH 27 CLONES. PALM TREES FROM FROZEN CULTURES HAVE BEEN PLANTED IN IVORY COAST. NO DIFFERENCE WAS OBSERVED BETWEEN THESE AND CONTROL PLANTS.
