Summary

THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE USE OF HALOGENS AND TO ITS EFFECTS ON THE OZONE LAYER, FROM THE '70S TO THE PRESENT ARE REVIEWED. IT IS UNDERLINED THAT, THANKS TO THE LEGISLATIVE MEASURES TAKEN BETWEEN 1974 AND 1983, THE OVERALL CONSUMPTION OF R11 AND R12 IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES, HAS DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY. THE MONTREAL PROTOCOL IS DEALT WITH ; IT CONCERNS THE REDUCTIONS OF THE CONSUMPTION OF VARIOUS COMPOUNDS. FINALLY, THE PROSPECTS FOR THE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF NEW REFRIGERANTS ARE EXAMINED. R.R.
