Summary

Knowledge of temperature distribution in soil plays an important role in various applications, e.g. design and operation of heating systems based on ground heat pumps. The thermal capacity of ground heat exchangers depends on various properties of soil such as: specific heat, thermal conductivity, and thermal diffusivity. These properties strongly depend on temperature and humidity of soil. A close attention has been paid to problem of water freezing in soil including depth of frost formation and its effect on thermal properties of soil.
