Purity of hydrocarbon refrigerants.
Reinheit der Kohlenwasserstoff-Kältemittel.

Type of article: Article
Summary
Isobutane 2.5 (R600a) and propane 2.5 (R290) appear particularly suitable for use as environmentally-friendly refrigerants. However, low-cost availability of the starting materials is offset by the high purity of 99.5% specified for refrigerants by DIN 8960. It could nevertheless be demonstrated that commercial grade hydrocarbons of lower purity can be used without detrimental effects on machine wear or ageing of machine oils.
