Summary

Gala apple fruits were cooled over 3 or 8 days and then stored for 8.5 months in controlled atmosphere storage, with high ethylene, low ethylene or ultra low ethylene. Fruits were evaluated. Rapid cooling resulted in better fruit firmness and green colour retention, even after 7 days at 20 °C, than slow cooling, and in the lowest percentage of mealy fruits after 7 days at 20 °C.
