Summary
IN THE USA A BLEND OF HCFC-22, HFC-152A AND HCFC-124 WITH AN OZONE DEPLETION FACTOR OF 0.03 HAS BEEN SUGGESTED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR R502. HOWEVER, HCFC-123 HAS BEEN FOUND TO HAVE AN ANAESTHETIC EFFECT ON MICE AND IT IS THOUGHT THAT HCFC-124 IS SIMILAR. TESTING MAY CONTINUE UNTIL 1994, WITH COMMERCIAL MANUFACTURE BEING UNLIKELY UNTIL 1996. ANOTHER SUBSTITUTE, HFC-125 WILL ALSO NEED A LONG TEST PROGRAMME. D.W. H.
