Summary

A SURVEY OF FROZEN FOOD STORAGE CAPACITIES SINCE THE EARLY THIRTIES AND UP TO 1977 WHEN REBUILDING AND RETROFITTING PROGRAMMES WERE STARTED. FURTHER REBUILDING WAS CARRIED OUT IN 1980 AND A TOTAL STORAGE VOLUME OF 80,000 M3 AT 248 K (-25 DEGC) HAS BEEN COMPLETED UP TO THE PRESENT. FLUIDIZED-BED AND SPIRAL FREEZERS ARE NOW BEING EMPLOYED, BUT LIQUID NITROGEN FREEZING IS NOT YET ENVISAGED FOR ECONOMIC REASONS.
