Recent developments in CO2 cascade condensers.

Author(s) : JOKAR A., HAYES N., AYUB Z. H.

Summary

The use of carbon dioxide in low temperature cascade systems is increasing at the moment in the industrial refrigeration market. The use of plate exchanger as cascade condenser is a viable option due to the high thermal efficiency and smaller foot print characteristics of such exchangers. There is lack of reliable data in open literature on the condensation of carbon dioxide in such heat exchangers. This paper attempts to review the use of carbon dioxide in cascade refrigeration systems, describe the fundamental aspects of plate exchangers as cascade condensers, and present the latest carbon dioxide condensing data in brazed plate heat exchangers.
