Summary

THE AUTHOR SURVEYS THE DEVELOPMENTS IN RESEARCH SINCE THE LATE 1920. THE RESEARCH CARRIED ON IN ESTABLISHMENTS INITIATED AND FINANCED BY THE UNITED KINGDOM GOVERNMENT, AND THE COOPERATION GIVEN BY THE INDUSTRIES CONCERNED, HAVE LED TO THE OUTSTANDING PROGRESS OF THE PAST 50 YEARS. THERE APPEARS NO ALTERNATIVE LIKELY TO SUPERSEDE REFRIGERATION FOR THE DISTRIBUTION AND STORAGE OF FISH AND MEAT. FURTHER PROGRESS IS LIKELY TO BE EVOLUTIONARY RATHER THAN REVOLUTIONARY. C.R.F.
