Refrigerant blends for air conditioning: causes and effects of composition shift and temperature glide.

Author(s) : MORLEY J. R.

Summary

The HVACR industry has used mixed refrigerants, both azeotropic and zeotropic mixtures, for many years with great success. However, there are still some who are curious about the underlying thermodynamics of how mixtures perform in refrigeration cycles. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the physical properties of refrigerant mixtures, how mixtures behave at thermal equilibrium, and the implications of their behaviour on the operation and service diagnosis of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
