Summary

Single and multi-stage Joule-Thompson refrigerators operating natural nitrogen-hydrocarbon mixtures are marketable for creating refrigeration equipment for freezing and cryopreservation of biomedical materials, liquefaction of certain gases, high-temperature superconductors cooling, climate tests conducting without using of cryogenic liquids. One of the main objectives at the development of such refrigerators is to determine the optimal weight of mixed-refrigerant charge with the known geometry of the refrigeration circuit. The article describes the theoretical and experimental testing results of the computational method which is proposed for solving this objective. The method correctness is determined by the validity of the mixed-refrigerant thermodynamic properties computation. This is due to the formation of solutions with limited components solubility in the liquid phase and changing of the mixed-refrigerant “circulating” composition concerning “charged” at the steady-state operating mode in real refrigerators. The method application will allow reducing the time and cost of new products turning.
