Summary
The Australian refrigeration and air-conditioning industry established RRA as a response to the Montreal Protocol and Australian legislation. All industry sectors participated in the creation of the programme, and are actively involved in its innovative operations. The make-up of the RRA Board of Directors is a vertical slice of local industry with representatives from manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, contractors, and major end user groups. Whilst wholly funded by industry, the organisation enjoys strong support from all levels of government. RRA utilizes the locally developed Plascon(TM) technology to destroy unwanted and contaminated refrigerants. This is a plasma-arc process that effectively converts fluorocarbons to harmless salts, and is recognized by many as the most environmentally efficient and economically effective method for destroying the products currently available.
