Type of article: Article

Summary

THE TRAFFIC SYSTEM GOVERNS THE EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS, THE TRANSPORT SYSTEM DETERMINES THE INTERNAL DIMENSIONS, WHEREAS THE REFRIGERATING SYSTEM HAS TO BE ADAPTED TO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL DIMENSIONS BUT, IN ADDITION, HAS TO COMPLY WITH THE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS WITH RESPECT TO CREATING AND MAINTAINING THE PROTECTIVE CLIMATE FOR THE CARGO. IT IS SHOWN, THAT WITH A REALISTIC APPROACH TO THE OPERATIONAL TOLERANCES AN INTEGRAL SYSTEM CAN BE OPERATED, YIELDING OPTIMAL ECONOMICAL RESULTS. THE RECENT INTERNATIONAL STANDARDISATION OF TRANSPORT UNITS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM.
