Summary
A wide and general survey on refrigeration production. Theoretical aspects concerning the thermodynamics of the vapour compression refrigeration cycles are discussed, like the distribution of exergy losses, the influence of the working fluid on energy efficiency and the possible measures for reducing irreversibilities. Topical aspects related to the current technology of refrigerating equipment are reviewed and discussed; in this respect the authors stress the importance of partial load operation of the compressor on energy consumption, especially in the case of a screw compressor.
