Summary

THE IMPORTANCE OF REFRIGERATION DURING CATCH, PROCESSING AND DISTRIBUTION IS DISCUSSED. A GLOBAL PICTURE IS GIVEN OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORLD FISH-PRODUCTION. THE METHODS USED IN INDUSTRIALISED COUNTRIES AND DEVELOPING COUNTRIES ARE DESCRIBED. FISH-FARMING IS INCLUDED IN THE DESCRIPTION. OTHER CONSERVATION METHODS ARE COMPARED WITH COOLING AND FREEZING. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO AN OPTIMAL POLICY FOR DEVELOPMENT-AID FROM THE INDUSTRIAL COUNTRIES TO IMPROVE THE FOOD SITUATION IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES.
