Summary

For existing installations the author puts the possibilities of a number of long-term alternatives in combination with six types of industrial systems in a systematical order. It turns out that, also in the light of the current regulations for existing systems, a retrofit only needs to be considered if the installation is sufficiently leakproof. For retrofitting the considered systems the HFCs R404A, R507 and R407C stand out as reasonable alternatives. Although R407C is less suitable to be used in freezing aplications. The costs for a retrofit with an HFC are about 10% of the replacement value of the installation.
