Requirements for the use of flammable refrigerants in heating and cooling equipment as developed in IEC 60335-2-40 by the Joint Working Group under IEC 61D.
Author(s) : GROB D. P.
Summary
There is increased interest in HC refrigerants. Several applications have been implemented in some countries using HCs, including refrigerators. The potential use of these refrigerants in heat pumps and air conditioners creates the need to develop safety requirements that address the risks associated with the use of a flammable gas in a household or similar application. The paper describes the safety requirements developed with the background and rational for the requirements and how the risks were addressed in the requirements.
