Research in different regions on a defrost mode for an air-source heat pump chiller.

Author(s) : HUANG Y., XIAO H., QIU W., et al.

Summary

Conventional defrost-mode fixes defrosting time-interval or defrosting starting temperature, but it is not a good defrosting method fit for all climates. A new defrost-mode called different-regions-defrost-mode selects optimal defrost-code for defrosting based on ambient air dry-bulb temperature. The influence of the different-regions-defrost-mode on an air-source heat pump chiller was investigated in this paper. The experiments for the new mode and the conventional mode were conducted on a nominal heating capacity 42 kW modular air-source heat pump and discussed. The experimental results show that the heating capacity could increased about 1.5 kW at low temperature by adopting an appropriate defrost code, and the more serious frost is, the more short defrosting time-interval is, but not less than that of the old defrost-mode; the more light frost is, the longer the defrosting time-interval is, even twice as long as that of the former defrost-mode.
