Summary
The perforated tube and other kinds of pulsation attenuators can cause pressure loss while reducing the pulsation of the piping system of the reciprocating compressor. Excessive pressure loss caused by pulsation attenuators will not only increase the compressor power consumption, but also increase the exhaust temperature. Therefore, it is extremely important to control the pressure loss of the pulsation attenuators. This work studied flowing characteristics of a NPTA (nozzle perforated tube attenuator) and a PTA (perforated tube attenuator). The numerical models were established to predict their flowing resistance characteristics and experiments were conducted to verify the models. What’s more, the sensitivity of the flowing resistance of the two pulsation attenuators to the porosity, the diameter of the drilling hole, the diameter of the tube and the length of the tube were investigated and compared, when they were installed in a reciprocating compressor piping system. The results showed that the pressure loss of NPTA is obviously greater than that of PTA under the same flowing conditions. And compared to the diameter of the drilling hole and length of the tube, the porosity and diameter of the tube have greater impact on the pressure loss of NPTA, while the pressure loss of PTA is sensitive only to the diameter of the tube. Both pressure loss of NPTA and PTA are insensitive to the diameter of the drilling holes and length of the tube. Therefore the diameter of the drilling holes and length of the tube should be mainly determined by effects of the pulsation reduction.
