Summary

Reciprocating compressors are used to increase gas pressure in fields of petrochemical, chemical, steel and metallurgy industries. It has great potential of pressure pulsation occurring in the piping system that will lead to the piping vibration, which not only causes intensity noises but also endangers the compressor operation. Therefore, severe piping vibrations are required to be carefully controlled to ensure the reliability of reciprocating compressors. A novel attenuator called Nozzle Perforate Tube Attenuator (NPTA) was investigated experimentally in this paper. The displacement and the pressure pulsation of several measuring points set in the pipe system with and without NPTA were measured under different working conditions. The results show that the pulsation amplitude of the pipeline with NPTA has 16.2% to 80.9%reduction compared with that of the pipeline without NPTA. The NPTA installed in the pipeline changed the natural frequencies of the gas column .Besides, the vibration damping performance of the NPTA was also investigated experimentally.
