DIFFERENT STRAWBERRY CLONES WERE EXAMINED. BEST QUALITY WAS SHOWN BY THE FOLLOWING CLONES: 80.52.1 (CARDINAL X 74.30.1): VERY FIRM BERRIES, NOT VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO ROT WITH AN INTENSE RED COLOUR WHICH RETAINED ITS BRIGHTNESS EVEN AFTER STORAGE ; 80.67.3(HONEY X 74.30.1): BERRIES VERY RESISTANT TO COMPRESSION, INTENSE COLOUR WITH A BRIGHT RED HUE ; CARDINAL: BERRIES VERY FIRM AND RESISTANT TO COMPRESSION, THE COLOUR TENDS TO BECOME TOO DARK DURING STORAGE ; AND FERRARA: BERRIES VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE OF CARDINAL, WITH VERY LOW INCIDENCE OF ROT AND BRUISING DURING STORAGE.
