Retrofitting R12 and R502 refrigeration systems with non-CFC refrigerants.

Summary

New Zealand food industry refrigerating plants work mostly with R12 and R502. Several replacement tests have already been carried out. To date, a small R12 refrigerating plant and a small supermarket R502 cold room have respectively been retrofitted with R134a and AZ50, which is a new azeotropic CFC. In the article, measures taken to progressively reduce R12 and R502 equipment are emphasized. Examples of current replacements are examined and the most recent results are given. Various study cases will be published and communicated to refrigeration and meat processing industries in New Zealand.
