Secondary-loop refrigeration systems using ammonia as a primary refrigerant.

Author(s) : INLOW S. W., GROLL E. A.

Summary

For supermarket applications with a secondary-loop system, the loss in performance resulting from the added level of heat exchange and the addition of a pump must be minimized through proper secondary refrigerant selection and system design. Possible secondary refrigerants are identified. A detailed parametric study of the refrigeration coil and interconnecting pipe diameters was conducted to achieve the best system performance for each fluid and for R22 in the conventional system. The comparison of these secondary fluids relative to HCFC22 in a conventional system is presented. The results indicate refrigeration system could provide equivalent performance to existing systems.
