Summary

Experiments were conducted to improve the shelf-life of bananas (cv. Rasthali) by storing them in 400 gauge (86.35 micron) thick low density polyethylene bags in air, a vacuum or nitrogen with and without ethylene absorbent. The changes in firmness, total soluble sugars, ascorbic acid, TSS/acid ratio and the physiological loss in weight were analysed during storage.
