Summary

By introducing the median h(m) as cooling potential, estimating the performance of a mechanical draft cooling tower becomes simpler and easier than with the conventional method. The median h(m) is the enthalpy potential at mean temperature of cooling water going in and out. This simple method is compared with the following Japanese standard of accuracy: performance tests of mechanical draft cooling tower JIS B 8609. The error is less than 2% excluding when cross flow type is short of flow rate, when error reaches 2.5%.
