Summary
A typical single-stage adsorptive desiccant-based air-conditioning system, powered by hot water from commercial solar collectors, was tested in Japan. At lower ambient humidity, cooling efficiency and cooling power were sufficient to provide a comfortable indoor climate even at an ambient temperature of 33 °C. At higher ambient humidity, cooling efficiency and power decreased sharply and were not adequate. A new two-stage system is proposed for use in hot and humid climates. Model calculations indicate that the two-stage system would perform better at higher humidity.
